SHERITA FLOWERS

Life can bring challenges that are difficult to navigate alone—especially when you are caring for a child with unique needs, adjusting to life after military service, navigating the foster care system, or trying to support a child who is struggling emotionally, behaviorally, or academically. Having a therapist who understands the systems surrounding you can make a difference.

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with a Master of Social Work and a Master of Educational Leadership. My professional background includes experience in social work, special education, child welfare, case management, crisis intervention, family advocacy, and disability services. My experience as a special education teacher has also given me firsthand insight into the challenges children with disabilities and their families may experience at school, at home, and within larger systems of care.

I have a particular passion for working with children and adolescents with disabilities, foster children and youth involved in the child welfare system, veterans, and parents and caregivers of children with special needs. I also support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, behavioral concerns, family conflict, school-related challenges, and major life transitions.

For parents raising a child with a disability, the demands of caregiving and advocacy can sometimes become overwhelming. Between school meetings, appointments, behavioral or developmental needs, family responsibilities, and advocating for appropriate services, parents may find that their own emotional needs are placed last. I provide a space for parents to address caregiver stress, burnout, anxiety, guilt, family stress, and the challenge of balancing their child's needs with their own well-being.

My work with children and adolescents is informed by both my clinical background and my experience in special education. I understand that behavior often communicates an underlying need, and I work to understand the whole child rather than defining them by a diagnosis, disability, behavior, or circumstance. I strive to help young people strengthen emotional regulation, confidence, coping skills, communication, and their ability to navigate challenges at home and school.

I also welcome veterans who may be navigating stress, relationships, family responsibilities, major life transitions, or the adjustment between military and civilian life. My approach is collaborative and individualized, recognizing that each person's experiences and needs are different.

My therapeutic style is warm, client-centered, strengths-based, and practical. I believe clients already possess strengths and resilience that can become powerful tools for change. Together, we can identify what is working, address what isn't, and develop realistic strategies that fit your life.

Whether you are a parent who spends most of your time advocating for your child, a young person trying to find your place, a foster youth navigating circumstances you did not choose, or a veteran adjusting to a new chapter, my goal is to provide a space where you feel heard, respected, supported, and understood.
